Facts about Claremont
Found along the eastern side of Los Angeles County, Claremont is roughly 30 miles from downtown Los Angeles. The city is next to the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, in the Pomona Valley. At the time of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 34,926. As of the 2020 census, Claremont had a population of 35,703.
The city was first developed as part of the land boom resulting from the development of transcontinental railroads throughout Southern California. There is some evidence that the name was selected in honor of Claremont, New Hampshire. The development culminated with the incorporation of Claremont in 1907.
Arts are key to the culture of Claremont. An annual folk music festival is held each spring, and the city is home to several museums. Art festivals featuring plays and concerts of various genres are also available year round.
Today, Claremont is home to a number of employers who help to feed the city's economy. The top five currently are Claremont Colleges, the Claremont Unified School District, HiRel Connectors, the City of Claremont, and the Claremont Auto Center.
