Facts about Bradbury
Bradbury is found in San Gabriel Valley at the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountain Range. As part of Los Angeles County, the city is bordered by Monrovia to the south and the west, and Duarte to the south and the east. At the time of the 2010 census, the city had 1,048 residents. Figures for 2021 indicate that the population has decreased to 900 residents.
What would become Bradbury was founded in 1881. Lewis Leonard Bradbury established the homestead of Rancho Azusa de Duarte in 1881, later passing the property to his daughter Minerva. At the time of her marriage to Isaac Polk in 1912, the couple chose to build a large mansion on the property, dubbing it Chateau Bradbury.
For years, neighboring Monrovia attempted to annex Bradbury. Finally, the residents voted to incorporate in 1957, bringing the annexation efforts to a halt.
There are three distinct parts of the city. Bradbury Estates is a gated community including a series of estates with a minimum of five acres each. Woodlyn Lane is also a gated community that sports estates with at least two acres each. The remainder of the city is not gated.
