Facts about Azusa
Located in the San Gabriel Valley, Azusa is a city that's about 20 miles from downtown Los Angeles. During the 2020 census, it was determined that more than 50,000 people lived in the city. This was up from a population of 46,361 at the time of the 2010 census.
The San Gabriel Mountains border Azusa to the north, with Covina being to the south. Vincent, an unincorporated community, is found to the east while Irwindale is to the west.
The famous Route 66, once a main highway spanning the United States, has a leg that passes through Azusa, at the area where Foothill Boulevard and Alosta Avenue meet.
The first settlement in the area dates back to 1841. Azusa formally came into being when it was founded in 1887. Incorporation as a town followed in 1898, and finally as a city in 1901.
Today, Azuza has an economy founded on the presence of a number of industries. Some of the major employers in the region include Azusa Pacific University, Azusa Unified School District, Northrop Grumman, Costco Wholesale Corporation, and the City of Azusa.
